Media personality Kris Aquino has provided an update on her ongoing battle with multiple autoimmune diseases, confirming that she is still not fit to return to work as she continues her treatments.
In her latest Instagram post on February 22, Aquino revealed that she is battling nearly ten illnesses, with her weight dangerously dropping to 37 kilos (82 pounds).
Despite her health struggles, she maintained her signature humor, sharing a joke made by her son Bimby, who quipped, “Mama, you belong in X-Men because you’re a mutant.”
Addressing rumors of a comeback, Aquino clarified that while she is eager to return, her health condition does not allow it yet.
“I haven’t posted anything because I didn’t want all those praying for me to feel sad & lose the faith. May I clarify? I’m not yet ‘fit to work’ because I’m very underweight,” she wrote.
She also shared her current medical goals, stating that her doctors have set specific targets for her white blood cell (WBC) count and hemoglobin levels before she can resume any professional commitments.
“My deal with my team of doctors… is that my WBC doesn’t fall below 5.5 for four straight weeks, my hemoglobin improves to at least 9.5, and my weight holds steady at 90 pounds (40.8 kilos),” she explained.
Aquino previously disclosed that she was suffering from six autoimmune diseases, but she has since been diagnosed with additional conditions. She is now dealing with: Autoimmune Thyroiditis, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA) – a rare, life-threatening form of Vasculitis
Systemic Sclerosis, Lupus (SLE), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Polymyositis (suspected), Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (suspected).
Amid these diagnoses, her friends and family continue to support her with humor. “Those closest to me now joke—‘May nadagdag na naman ba sa autoimmune collection mo?’” she said, adding that she tries to keep things light despite the pain.
Aquino also disclosed that her allergies to common medications such as NSAIDs, steroids, pain relievers, antibiotics, and Immunoglobulin Therapy make managing her symptoms even more difficult.
“Many times, the physical pain is overwhelming,” she admitted, emphasizing the challenges of dealing with chronic illnesses without the typical treatments available to most patients.
In addition to addressing her health, Aquino also clarified speculations about her love life, confirming that she is currently single.
“I’ve always been honest with all of you. For some time now, I have been single—no boyfriend, so clearly no fiancé. I never gave details while we were a couple, so it makes no sense to elaborate now,” she stated.
Following her update, several showbiz personalities expressed their love and encouragement for Aquino, including: Kim Chiu: “Love you soo soo much, Ate.”
Angeline Quinto: “See you soon, Ate Kris!”
Miles Ocampo: “I love you always, my nanay.”
Erik Santos: “Praying for you, Ate Kris. Hope we can visit you also one of these days.”
K Brosas: “Miss you, gorge!! Lablablab!”
Despite her condition, Aquino remains hopeful and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she continues to receive.
“Thank you for your love and concern. #hindisusuko #tuloyangLABAN,” she concluded.
