Acclaimed actress Dimples Romana is taking on another powerful and emotionally charged role in the upcoming horror film ‘The Caretakers’.
Portraying Lydia, a caretaker of an ancestral home, Dimples delivers a deeply moving performance as a mother fighting to protect what she believes is rightfully hers.
During a recent press conference, Dimples opened up about how her real-life experiences as a mother of three helped shape her portrayal.
“There are things you never thought you could do, but you push through because of your love for your children. My character in the film has three kids, which I relate to since I also have three. As a mother, you learn to balance different personalities and temperaments—one may be outspoken, another childlike. This role made me reflect on whether there’s really a right or wrong way to love as a mother.”
While ‘The Caretakers’ marks the first collaboration between Dimples and Iza, their connection was instant.
“It’s quite humbling to be working with somebody you actually adore from afar. For us artists, it’s not just because you worked with someone that you adore them. There are also people you admire from afar, and you wonder why your paths haven’t crossed yet?”
She added that their chemistry on set felt natural, despite their differences.
“I believe that it’s all in God’s perfect timing. You really can’t force something that’s not meant for you. And just like what Iza was saying, we’re very different and yet so similar. And what I love the most about our relationship is that we don’t have to necessarily see each other all the time to give each other warmth.”
Unlike her past horror roles, Dimples revealed that The Caretakers presented a new kind of challenge—filming inside a silong (basement) that carried an eerie presence.
“We all know there are many stories about basements. Bukod sa nanakit yung balakang ko dahil ang lalim niya, I wondered, ‘How do they even fit in here?’”
For Dimples, energy is everything, and she admitted to feeling a strong presence while on set.
“Everything to me is energy. So, when I enter a house, I’m the type to ask permission from the unseen, ‘Tabi-tabi po, pasensya na po, nakikidaan po kami.’”
During the entire filming process, she made sure to stay prayerful and respectful of the location.
“While we were shooting this, katakot-takot na dasal ang ginawa ko because, of course, we believed we weren’t alone, given that the house was very old.”
For Dimples, ‘The Caretakers’ is more than just a horror movie—it’s a quiet yet deeply powerful film.
“This is a quiet horror film, and that’s what makes it powerful. This film speaks volumes in its silence. Not all battles are fought with words—some are fought with actions. ‘The Caretakers’ will make you stop and think. It’s personal, introspective, and deeply unsettling.”
With themes of family, sacrifice, and the supernatural, Dimples believes the film will resonate with audiences beyond just scares.
“It’s a very quiet film and very timely… I feel like the world is already too noisy. And I think this film depicts really about being quiet but also being loud in that silence. Not everything we fight for is won with words—sometimes, it’s through actions.”
Dimples Romana invites audiences to witness her gripping and emotional performance in ‘The Caretakers’, premiering in cinemas nationwide on February 26.
