Real-life couple Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado are diving into action-packed roles in their upcoming GMA Network buddy-cop series, ‘Sanggang Dikit.’
As part of their preparation, the two stars underwent target shooting training to enhance their portrayal of police officers in the show.
Dennis and Jennylyn were joined by their co-stars Allen Dizon, Joross Gamboa, John Vic de Guzman, Kiel Rodriguez, Seb Pajarillo, and James Lucero, all of whom are also playing law enforcement roles. The training, which focused on firearm handling and safety, aimed to help the actors become comfortable with their weapons for the high-stakes action scenes in the series.
In an interview with ’24 Oras’ Lhar Santiago, Jennylyn admitted feeling anxious at the start of their training due to her sensitivity to loud noises.
“Kanina ninenerbyos pa ako pero unti-unti, kahit New Year kasi nagtatago talaga ako, hindi ko kaya ‘yung mga fireworks, ‘yung blastings, putok, ganyan, kaya medyo ninenerbyos talaga ako,” she shared.
However, as she progressed through the training, Jennylyn gained more confidence in handling firearms.
Dennis emphasized the importance of proper firearm handling and safety precautions in their preparation for the series.
“Pero ngayon, unti-unti, nagiging komportable kami, naturuan kami kung papaano mag-handle, ‘yung mga safety [precautions] na kailangan mong tandaan kapag gagamit ka nung mga ganung klaseng weapons,” he explained.
“Once na natutunan mo naman na at nalaman mo na ‘yung importante, mababawasan na ‘yung kaba mo.”
First announced during Jennylyn Mercado’s contract renewal with GMA Network, ‘Sanggang Dikit’ is one of the network’s flagship offerings for 2025. Inspired by 1980s action films, the series is set to deliver intense action sequences and thrilling police drama.
According to GMA Network’s teaser, Sanggang Dikit is: “Set against the backdrop of political intrigue and personal rivalries, GMA’s buddy-cop series channels the high-octane energy and style of ‘80s action films. Besides performances from two of the Network’s biggest stars, audiences will be thrilled by explosive stunts, gunfights, and high-stakes storylines.”
While fans eagerly await ‘Sanggang Dikit’, Dennis and Jennylyn will first reunite on the big screen in their upcoming romantic-comedy film, ‘Everything About My Wife.’ The film, which premieres in cinemas nationwide on February 26, 2025, marks the couple’s first full-length movie together in 15 years, following their last collaboration in 2010’s ‘Rosario.’
