Quinto and the Pop Royalty attended the same school and joined the same singing contest together, when they were kids.
Not too many know the story in how Kapamilya singer and Star Power winner, Angeline Quinto, became responsible in Popstar Royalty, Sarah Geronimo’s eventual winning in the IBC-13 singing-reality show, Star For A Night. Aired in 2002, with Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez as host, the talent search hailed Geronimo as the grand winner in the following year. Quinto ultimately won Star Power a few years later, and while Geronimo carved a successful path in showbiz and music, much earlier, Quinto proved to create her own destiny to fame, as well.
But, do you know, Quinto is somehow responsible for Geronimo’s eventual winning in that said talent show? In a vlog entry with social media content creator, Viy Cortez, Quinto shared for the first time how she indirectly sent Geronimo to victory when they were still fierce rivals in various singing competitions.
“Kami ni Sarah, same kami ng school noong elementary. So ngayon, dahil nakasali na ako sa Star For A Night, nakita ko si Mommy Divine sa ibaba ng school namin. Tinanong niya ako, ‘di ba nasakasali ka Star For A Night, sabi ko, ‘ay opo…tapos tinanong niya kung paano sumali roon, ” she told Cortez, sharing her encounter with Sarah’s mother, Mommy Divine.
“So, tinuro ko kung saan mag-auaudition, saan pupunta, ano ‘yung kailangan na requirements, kaya nakasali si Sarah doon, ”.
Cortez got amazed that she blurted out, “Tapos, siya ang nanalo doon? Oh my god!”
“So, Mommy Divine, nasaan ang komisyon ko?!” responded Angeline, who alluded to Sarah’s mother having an unpaid commissions to her, for indirectly being responsible in Sarah’s eventual victory in Star For A Night.
Both Cortez and Quinto realized how the latter was somehow to blame for her own loss in the said contest, and they both shared chuckles afterwards.
Such incidence, however, was not without any major takeaways for both women.
“Pero doon mo makikita na kanya-kanyang time talaga Kasi kung ikaw ang nanalo doon, baka hindi ka ganito kasikat ngayon!” said Cortez, giving her two scents on perfect timing when it comes to success.
Quinto could not agree more, saying “Kanya-kanyang destiny din talaga ‘no?”
Angeline Quinto won the Kapamilya singing-talent search and Sharon Cuneta-hosted, Star Power, in 2007. She eventually reunited with Geronimo in the Sunday noontime musical-variety show, ASAP.
