Ruru Madrid is still riding high after winning Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) for his role as Xavier Gonzaga in ‘Green Bones’.
The film, produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, showcased Ruru’s versatility and emotional depth, making his first MMFF outing a resounding success.
In an exclusive interview with GMA Integrated News, Ruru expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on the challenges he overcame to achieve the milestone.
“This award became my fuel to work harder,” he said. “At first, I thought, ‘Hindi, hindi ako maapektuhan diyan. Kaya ko iyan kasi hindi naman lahat ng sinasabi nila totoo.’ Pero deep inside, I realized it did affect me.”
Ruru also emphasized that the recognition isn’t just for his critics but for himself and his supporters. “It became my motivation not just to prove others wrong but to prove to myself that I deserve everything I’ve achieved. I also don’t want to let down the people who believe in me,” he added.
With this recent achievement, Ruru is returning to his iconic role in the action-packed series ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’. His portrayal of Lolong will be bolstered by the lessons he learned from ‘Green Bones’.
“I’m excited to use what I’ve learned,” he shared. “The process of working hard and struggling through the journey is something I treasure the most.”
‘Green Bones’ continues to perform well at the box office, with screenings in more than 170 cinemas nationwide. The film’s success, along with Ruru’s acclaimed performance, has cemented his status as one of the industry’s most promising stars.
In preparation for the highly anticipated new season, Ruru has resumed his martial arts training to deliver even more intense action scenes.
