Kapuso Primetime Action Hero Ruru Madrid is set to make a powerful comeback as the titular character in ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’, the highly anticipated second season of the hit GMA Network action-adventure series.
Despite the immense pressure brought by the massive success of its first season, Ruru shared his excitement and gratitude, emphasizing his commitment to delivering a show that will resonate with Filipino viewers.
“‘Yung pressure kasi, hindi nawawala in every project na gagawin natin. Pero gusto ko ‘yun kasi hindi ka magiging kampante. Dapat lagi mong ini-improve ang ginagawa mo para tumatak sa puso ng sambayanang Pilipino,” he said during the press conference held on January 13.
In the second season, Ruru reflected on the essence of heroism.
“Hindi mo kailangang magkaroon ng superpowers para maging bayani. Basta nakakatulong ka sa kapwa mo at nagbibigay ng inspirasyon, bayani ka na,” he shared.
According to the actor, this valuable lesson will stay with him long after the show.
The second season of Lolong boasts a much larger cast, expanding from 12 main actors in the first season to over 50 this time around.
“Ever since nagkaroon ng Lolong noong 2022, hindi ko naisip na magkakaroon ng Book 2. Kaya sobrang grateful ako sa opportunity na ito. Nag-start kami mag-taping noong November, at kahit dalawang buwan lang ang preparation, pinagbutihan namin ito para maipakita sa inyo nang maganda,” Ruru explained.
‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’ kicks off on January 20 and will air weeknights after ’24 Oras’ on GMA Prime. The show will also be accessible to global audiences through GMA Pinoy TV.
The series headlines GMA Public Affairs’ prestigious lineup of programming as part of the network’s 75th anniversary celebration.
Coming off his Best Supporting Actor win at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival for ‘Green Bones’, Ruru’s role as Lolong is expected to showcase even more depth and intensity as the beloved character navigates bigger challenges and action-packed scenes.
