TV host and singer Karylle has called on all election candidates to participate in debates, emphasizing that voters have the right to hear their plans and policies beyond campaign jingles and social media antics.
Speaking on the radio show ‘Good Times’, Karylle expressed her frustration with candidates who avoid debates, urging the public to demand more substantial discussions.
“We have to demand it as voters, as people… It is our job as voters to be more noisy about… right namin ‘to, right namin na mapanood kayo,” Karylle stated.
She stressed the importance of informed voting, saying, “Gusto naming marinig more than your jingle, more than your TikTok dance… what are you about, we want to know. We have to demand this… this is our rights.”
Karylle’s remarks come as the 2025 midterm election campaign heats up amid rising public interest due to ongoing political tensions, such as the Iglesia ni Cristo’s “peace rally” addressing the reported rift between President Bongbong Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.
The singer also pointed out the necessity of debates as platforms for candidates to present their stand on critical national issues.
“Saan natin sila maririnig kung hindi sila pumupunta sa mga debate?” she asked.
Aside from being an advocate for political transparency, Karylle continues to make waves in the entertainment industry. After starring in the 2024 production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, she is set to appear in the upcoming reality show ‘Manila Matriarchs’, featuring Filipina powerhouses.
Despite her packed schedule, Karylle remains a mainstay host on ABS-CBN’s ‘It’s Showtime’, which continues to air on GMA Network.
