Sophia Asistio, the daughter of actress Nadia Montenegro, has opened up about her ongoing communication with her biological father, actor Baron Geisler.
During a guest appearance on the show ‘Lutong Bahay’, Sophia and her mother shared stories about their family’s journey, including how Sophia discovered the truth about her parentage.
Nadia revealed that Sophia grew up unaware of her connection to Baron, respecting the request of her late husband, Boy Asistio.
“‘Yung naging request lang ng Daddy Boy nila is sana ‘pag nalaman niya, wala na siya sa mundong ito dahil ayaw niyang magbago ang tingin ni Sophia sa kaniya,” Nadia explained.
Sophia eventually confronted her mother about the truth when she was 16 years old. Now 18, she has started building a cautious relationship with her biological father.
Sophia shared that while she has been communicating with Baron, she remains mindful of setting boundaries.
“When I talk to him, I just say ‘po,’ ganun lang,” she said, referring to the respectful term in Filipino culture.
She also admitted that this renewed relationship feels like a second chance.
“I’ve been trying to respect pero there’s still boundaries because I’ve tried na din, parang second chance na lang din ‘to,” Sophia said.
Sophia sees the relationship with her father as a potential avenue for self-discovery.
“Siyempre, hindi ko rin ika-cut off ‘yung ganung opportunity. Baka may mahanap ako sa sarili ko na mas makabubuti pala sa akin. Baka mas mag-grow ako as a person, if may nakita akong, ‘Uy, may similarities pala kami,'” she shared.
The young Asistio also addressed questions about her surname, making it clear that she is proud of her identity and has no intention of changing her name.
“When I see comments na parang, ‘Bakit ganito ‘yung apelyido mo?’ ngayon ko lang sasagutin: I’m very proud sa apelyido na meron ako ngayon. I take pride and kung hindi ko siya kailangan palitan, hindi ko papalitan ‘yung apelyido ko, hindi talaga,” she stated.
