Singer Sam Mangubat has come to the defense of ‘It’s Showtime’ following online backlash against the program after Sofronio Vasquez III’s win on ‘The Voice’ USA.
The global achievement of the Filipino singer has reignited discussions about his past participation in local singing competitions, particularly ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan’, a popular segment of ‘It’s Showtime’.
In a Facebook post, Mangubat expressed his frustration over the unwarranted negativity towards the show.
“Hindi ko magets bakit binabatikos yung mga show na pinanggalingan. Tapos na yon e. Baka di niyo alam, may text votes na factor din ang show. Magaling na siya noon, yes. Pero kita naman sa performances niya na mas seasoned na siya this time,” Mangubat stated, emphasizing Sofronio’s growth and maturity as an artist since his earlier competitions.
Mangubat also highlighted the pride It’s Showtime should feel as one of the platforms that helped shape Sofronio’s journey to international success.
“At malamang, proud sa kaniya ang lahat, maging ang It’s Showtime dahil isa to sa kinabilangan niyang show. At Ngayon, oras niya na!” he added.
The singer encouraged everyone to focus on celebrating Sofronio’s triumph instead of spreading negativity. He stressed the importance of unity and positivity, particularly when a fellow Filipino achieves global recognition.
“Magdiwang na lang po sana tayo ng hindi kailangan haluan ng kahit anong nega,” Mangubat urged.
The hosts of ‘It’s Showtime’ also congratulated Sofronio on his victory, hailing him as an inspiration to aspiring singers. They acknowledged his talent and perseverance as a testament to what Filipinos can achieve on the world stage.
