Ruru Madrid is being hailed as one of GMA Network’s rising stars, thanks to his impressive performances and the rapid rise of his career.
The actor’s popularity skyrocketed after his portrayal of the title role in the hit primetime series ‘Lolong’ (2022). With the upcoming second season, ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’, set to air in January 2025, Ruru’s career continues to thrive.
Following his success in Lolong, Ruru starred in the action series ‘Black Rider’ (2023-2024), which further showcased his versatility as an actor. This year, he also made his debut in the Metro Manila Film Festival with the highly anticipated drama Green Bones, alongside GMA Network’s Drama King Dennis Trillo. The film is expected to make a significant impact at this year’s festival.
As Ruru’s career continues to soar, he was recently recognized as one of GMA Network’s “emerging kings of drama,” a title that reflects his growing influence in the industry. During his appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’, Ruru shared his humble perspective on this achievement.
“Never ako nakipag-compete with anyone else,” Ruru said, explaining that his competitive nature is directed towards improving himself. “Galing po ako sa Protege, which is a competition, pero habang ando’n ako, never kong nakita na kakumpetensya ‘yung mga kasama ko po do’n. Parang sabi ko po sa sarili ko, I’d rather compete with myself so every single day, lagi akong may maipapakita at lagi akong nag-i-improve.”
Ruru also expressed his gratitude for the successes of 2024, reflecting on how many of his dreams and prayers are now coming to fruition. “Ang dami po kasing nangyayari na pinapangarap ko lang noon, pinagpe-pray ko lang noon na ngayon nangyayari na,” he shared. “Pero, to be honest, ‘di pa s’ya nagsi-sink in. I’m just very happy and grateful sa lahat po ng nangyayari sa career, sa buhay, sa pagmamahal, sa family, sa kaibigan, kumpleto.”
Despite his rapid rise to fame, Ruru remains grounded, acknowledging the challenges he faced at the beginning of his career. “Nadaanan ko ‘yung hirap e na hindi naman ako nagsimula na eto dapat. Ginapang ko talaga s’ya pataas,” he explained. “So ‘pag gano’n ‘yung nararamdaman mo, ‘di mo ite-take for granted ‘yung mga bagay, ‘di lalaki ulo mo, ‘di ka magiging mayabang, ‘di ka magiging kampante kasi ayaw mo nang bumalik ‘yung hirap na pinagdaanan mo.”
With a year full of accomplishments behind him and a promising future ahead, Ruru Madrid remains dedicated to his craft and thankful for the opportunities that continue to shape his career.
