Social media personality Rendon Labador declared that influencers have become the “new celebrities,” marking a significant shift in the media landscape.
Speaking at the launch of Geng Geng Network on December 2, Labador highlighted the growing influence of digital creators and their ability to connect with audiences in ways traditional media often cannot.
“Influencers are the new celebrities. That’s the reality now,” Labador said. He emphasized that social media platforms allow creators to show authentic stories and experiences that resonate with followers.
Labador pointed out that traditional media often offers what he called “false hope,” whereas social media influencers provide relatable and realistic content.
“Ang mainstream, nagbibigay sila ng false hope sa ating mga kababayan. Kami sa social media, alam naming nakakarelate ang followers namin sa amin. Ito ang magiging strength ng Geng Geng Network—ang pagpapakita ng totoong buhay at totoong nangyayari sa isang ordinaryong Pilipino,” he explained.

He said that Geng Geng Network’s focus on authenticity will set it apart from mainstream outlets. “We bring the reality of people’s lives to television, highlighting relatable stories and aiming to create a positive impact,” he added.
The Geng Geng Network, spearheaded by Boss Toyo, features an array of prominent content creators, including Ava Mendez, Whamos Cruz, the Tukomi Brothers, Kiko Matos, and Lai Austria.
“This network has been a work in progress since last year, but it’s now fully realized thanks to D8TV,” Boss Toyo said. The platform broadcasts from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily on D8TV Channel 31 and continues to accept pitches for new shows from interested collaborators.
Asked why the network opted for free TV when many are transitioning to online platforms, Boss Toyo explained the importance of reaching audiences without internet access. “Not everyone has the resources to go online. Through D8TV, we’re bridging that gap,” he said.
Current offerings on the Geng Geng Network include Bigayan na with Boss Toyo and Pinoy Pawn Stars. Upcoming shows set to premiere include: OFW Diaries, Remember Me, I Heart You, Motivated Billiard League (MBL), Moto Vated, Geng Geng News, Zypher Philippines, Food Vlog, Mommy Gangster, Real Talk, Bini Rosa, What’s Up, Klasmeyts.
The Geng Geng Network aims to redefine entertainment by merging the reach of traditional television with the authenticity of social media. Through its diverse programming and influencer-driven approach, the network seeks to deliver meaningful and impactful content to a broad audience.
