Former actress and entrepreneur Neri Naig Miranda, wife of Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda, was transferred to a hospital on Friday evening, days after being detained at the Pasay City Jail Female Dormitory.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirmed the transfer, which was carried out under a court order issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 112.
BJMP spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera explained in an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo that the court mandated a hospital visit for Neri, not exceeding five days, to evaluate her medical condition and well-being.
“Lumabas ang court order na dalhin siya sa ospital not more than 5 days. Ito ay ipinag-utos ng judge ng RTC 112 kung saan naka-file ang kanyang kaso,” Bustinera stated.
The transfer took place at around 8 p.m. on November 29, with BJMP personnel and 24 security officers ensuring the process went smoothly.
The request for medical evaluation was initiated by Neri’s legal counsel, and the BJMP complied accordingly.
“Inutusan kami ng BJMP na dalhin siya sa ospital at na-comply naman kami kagabi,” Bustinera added.
While initial medical examinations conducted upon her detention showed no significant health issues, the court granted the request for a detailed evaluation.
In a separate statement to ABS-CBN, it was confirmed that the transfer was for a thorough medical assessment.
Neri is currently facing charges of violating the Securities Regulation Code, estafa, and syndicated estafa. Further developments regarding her legal and medical status are expected in the coming days.
