As the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) draws near, Vice Ganda’s movie ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ has emerged as a clear frontrunner, securing the most cinema screenings and pre-sales among the MMFF 2024 entries.
As of December 22, 2024, the film has already been allocated 125 cinemas, a significant achievement for the star-powered movie. In terms of pre-sales, ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ has earned an impressive ₱2.24 million, topping the charts.
A major contributor to this success is Star Cinema’s strong presence in cinemas, with many theaters regularly hosting their films. In addition, the cast of ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’ has been actively promoting the film across malls, generating buzz and anticipation. The popularity and star power of Vice Ganda further contributed to the movie’s strong pre-sale performance.
Trailing in second place is ‘Espantaho’, starring Judy Ann Santos, which has secured 97 cinemas. Close behind in third is ‘The Kingdom’, a film starring Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual, with 86 cinemas. ‘Uninvited’, starring Vilma Santos, Nadine Lustre, and Aga Muhlach, ranks fourth with 83 cinemas.
Completing the Top 5 is ‘Strange Frequencies’, starring Enrique Gil, with 31 cinemas. Other notable entries include ‘My Future You’, featuring Seth Fedelin and Francine Diaz, and ‘Green Bones’, starring Ruru Madrid and Dennis Trillo, both securing 27 cinemas.

In the romantic category, ‘Hold Me Close’, starring Julia Barretto and Carlo Aquino, has garnered 25 cinemas, while ‘Topakk’, an action-packed movie starring Arjo Atayde and Julia Montes, has 20 cinemas. The musical ‘Isang Himala’ rounds out the list with the least number of cinemas at 16.
However, these figures are expected to change as word-of-mouth and the awards night influence the number of viewers. Cinema allocations are based on demand and may increase or decrease as the festival progresses. Further updates will be provided as the festival opens on December 25.
These cinema counts are based on the schedules from major chains such as Ayala, Robinsons, and SM. Smaller chains like Vista and Megaworld cinemas are not yet included in the report.
