Social media is abuzz with speculation about the identity of the “Filipina goddess” whom Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Bublé allegedly dated in the past.
The rumors were reignited after Sofronio Vasquez, the grand champion of ‘The Voice USA’ Season 26, shared a blind item about his coach during a guest appearance on ‘It’s Showtime’. Sofronio claimed that Bublé has a deep connection to the Philippines, not only because of his friendships with Filipino celebrities but also due to a past romantic link with a well-known Filipina.
Following Sofronio’s revelation, many netizens speculated that the actress in question could be Kristine Hermosa, now married to actor-businessman Oyo Sotto.
One netizen commented, “Parang nabalita na yun dati, nakilala ni Michael si Kristine after ng concert niya dito.” Another Reddit user cited an old rumor from a Ricky Lo column, “Nagdate daw si Michael at Kristine pero hindi sila nagkatuluyan. I think either nagbalikan sila ni Echo [Jericho Rosales] o naging sila ni Diet [Diether Ocampo].”
While fans speculate, an earlier interview with Michael Bublé seemed to downplay any romantic connection. He had this to say about Kristine: “What do I have to say about her? I’m a friend and a fan, but there was never a romance. There was never a sexual romance, I can promise you… She’s a class act.”
Meanwhile, Sofronio Vasquez made history as the first-ever Filipino and Asian to win ‘The Voice USA’. During his ‘It’s Showtime’ appearance, he credited his journey to his formative experiences in ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’, where he competed three times without taking home the top prize.
Reflecting on his audition process for ‘The Voice USA’, Sofronio said, “Nagsimula po ako sa blind audition trying to represent myself and, of course, sinubukan ko lang pong i-represent yung Utica, New York. Pero mapalad po ako kasi yung mga producer ng show, sila yung nag-suggest na mas maganda raw po siguro kung i-represent ko yung Philippines.”
Sofronio also shared his gratitude to Bublé, not only for being his coach but also for showing genuine affection for the Philippines. “Masaya po ako na, along the way, sincere at totoong pagmamahal yung galing kay Michael Bublé para sa Pilipinas,” he said, adding that Bublé revealed his ties to Filipino culture, including his connection to Martin Nievera and the mysterious “Filipina goddess.”
While Sofronio has yet to confirm his return to the Philippines, he promised that ‘It’s Showtime’ will be one of his first stops when he comes home.
