Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings were notably absent from the grand media launch of their upcoming film, ‘And The Breadwinner Is…’, sparking online discussions about their controversial situation.
The absence of the two stars, collectively known as the “MaThon” love team, was highlighted after an official art card from Star Cinema and The IdeaFirst Company omitted their names from the event’s cast lineup. This fueled speculation that the decision was deliberate, allowing the actors to avoid questions from the media regarding recent allegations against them.
The controversy began on December 3, when Anthony’s ex-girlfriend, Jamela Villanueva, shared screenshots of alleged conversations between Anthony and Maris on social media. The posts, which suggested an inappropriate relationship, led to widespread backlash, particularly targeting Maris.
The situation escalated as netizens debated the moral and legal aspects of the controversy. Fans and critics alike have since taken to social media to express their views, with some sympathizing with the actors and others condemning their alleged actions.
Sources close to the stars have disclosed that both Maris and Anthony are struggling with the emotional toll of the controversy. Their absence from the event was reportedly a measure to protect their mental health during this difficult time.
Amid the uproar, Atty. Joji Alonso posted a statement addressing the issue. The lawyer emphasized that Maris and Anthony had not violated any laws, although their actions could be perceived as morally questionable. In contrast, Alonso pointed out potential legal breaches committed by Villanueva, including cyber libel and a violation of data privacy laws.
“Assuming that all the screenshots are legit, the fact remains that Maris and Anthony have committed NO crime. Their actions may be regarded as morally wrong, but they were never married to their respective partners,” Alonso explained.
“Jamela, on the other hand, may have committed at least 2 crimes with her actions – cyber libel and violation of data privacy. She cannot hide her actions under the guise of ‘moving on’. Yes, she may have experienced pain and betrayal, but this does NOT give her the license to violate the law.”
“Nemo jus sibi dicere potest.”
Fans remain divided over the issue, with some showing unwavering support for Maris and Anthony, while others continue to criticize their absence from the promotional event. Neither Maris nor Anthony has released a statement addressing the allegations.
