John Arcilla expresses frustration over rising prices of goods in the Philippines

Internationally-acclaimed actor John Arcilla has voiced his concerns about the continuous rise in prices of basic commodities in the Philippines.

Through a post on his X account (formerly Twitter), the veteran actor shared his sentiments, highlighting the challenges faced by ordinary Filipinos amid increasing costs.

Arcilla, known for his critically acclaimed roles, admitted that even with his relatively higher income, he finds the skyrocketing prices overwhelming.

“Hindi ako nagyayabang na mas mataas ang kita ko sa average na wage earner at sa mas MARAMING PILIPINO. Pero PUNYETA, ang taas na ng bilihin ngayon ng BASIC COMMODITY sa palengke,” Arcilla wrote.

The actor reflected on how, just five to six years ago, a budget of ₱3,000 to ₱4,000 was enough for a week’s worth of groceries. Today, he said, the same expenses now range from ₱8,000 to ₱10,000.

“Kumikita ako ng mataas sa karaniwan, PERO NALULULA NA AKO SA GASTOS. PAANO PA YUNG SIMPLENG MAMAMAYAN?” he added, emphasizing the plight of the average Filipino.

Arcilla’s post struck a chord with many netizens, who echoed similar frustrations about the rising cost of living. Others pointed fingers at the government, citing corruption and inefficiencies as reasons behind the country’s economic struggles.

Arcilla’s sentiments reflect the ongoing struggles of many Filipinos grappling with high inflation and stagnant wages.
