After more than a decade since their pairing in the 2012 ABS-CBN hit series ‘Princess and I’, Enrique Gil expressed his openness to working again with Kathryn Bernardo.
During the red carpet event at the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards night on December 27, Enrique shared his thoughts on a possible reunion project. “I’m not sure about that. I haven’t heard about that. But I’m always open to anything, of course,” he said.
The 32-year-old actor, who ventured into film production this year through his company, Immerse Entertainment, clarified that he is not turning his back on love team projects. “I’m not naman saying goodbye. I’m not saying I’m closing my doors. In the meantime, as of now, because I’ve been doing it all my life, I think there’s a time and place for everything. This time, I really want to focus on different genres I’ve never done before,” he explained.
Enrique revealed his excitement about exploring different concepts in acting and producing. His recent work includes ‘I Am Not Big Bird’, a slapstick comedy, and a meta-style horror project.
“This is just the beginning. I was able to produce I Am Not Big Bird, which is a comedy. I’ve always wanted to do comedy, slapstick comedy,” Enrique shared. “Now, I was able to produce meta-style horror. I still want to produce a traditional style horror movie in the future. And I have a concept as well for an action horror.”
Enrique also shared his aspirations for more varied projects, saying, “More concepts and more comedies, and of course, I want some dramas as well in the future. Hindi kasi ako magaling mag-isip ng drama. May mga ilang concepts na. I have a team naman. Ang hilig ko kasi comedy and horror eh. And some action, of course, in the future.”
Looking ahead, Enrique announced an exciting co-production project with ABS-CBN. “Actually, I have one show coming up with ABS-CBN,” he revealed. “Co-production. It’s my concept. Ako yung nag-pitch sa ABS-CBN and super natuwa ako na talagang nagustuhan ni tita Cory [Vidanes], and they greenlit the project. TV series co-production ko ito and I’m super excited. We’ll be shooting in Europe next year but more details to follow pa.”
Enrique stars in ‘Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital’, one of the ten entries in the 2024 MMFF. Directed by Kerwin Go, the film also features Jane de Leon, Alexa Miro, Rob Gomez, MJ Lastimosa, Raf Pineda, and Ryan “Zarckaroo” Azurin. The movie is showing in cinemas nationwide until January 7, 2025.
