Actor Enchong Dee has broken his silence on the controversy surrounding his former co-star Maris Racal and actor Anthony Jennings.
The issue, which began with leaked private messages between Maris and Anthony, has captured public attention in recent days.
During the grand media launch of ‘Topakk’, Enchong’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry, the actor was asked about the ongoing matter. Choosing his words carefully, Enchong avoided delving into the personal lives of his colleagues.
“I think, if there’s anything I learned from being a 36-year-old, it’s to not give comments about other people’s lives,” Enchong said.
Despite this, the ‘Here Comes the Groom’ star expressed optimism for Maris and Anthony. “We’re all adults, so feeling ko, kung anuman ang pinagdadanan nila, kakayanin nila,” he added.
The issue began when Jam Villanueva, Anthony Jennings’ former girlfriend, shared screenshots of messages between Anthony and Maris. These exchanges were cited as evidence of alleged infidelity, leading to widespread discussion online.
Both Maris and Anthony issued public apologies in separate statements, taking accountability for their actions.
Maris addressed the situation by saying, “I don’t want to play the victim here. Nagkamali rin talaga ako. I want to say sorry to those people I have hurt.” She also apologized to her supporters, adding, “I am truly sorry to those people who supported me for 10 years. For 10 years, alam nilang lahat na ginapang ko yung career ko… Pinaghirapan ko lahat sa tulong nila.”
Anthony, for his part, also expressed regret. “Sa lahat ho ng mga nangyari nung nakaraang araw, sa lahat ho ng mga taong nasaktan ko, especially po si Maris ‘tsaka si Jam, humihingi ho ako ng tawad sa dalawang babae and sa lahat po ng mga nadamay ko rin po,” he said.
As the controversy continues to unfold, Enchong’s words serve as a reminder of the resilience of those involved.
