‘Green Bones’ lead actor Dennis Trillo donated his PhP100,000 cash prize from the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) to persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
The actor, who won the Best Actor award during the festival’s Gabi ng Parangal, made the donation through ‘Green Bones’ creator JC Rubio.
The idea for the donation came from Trillo’s wife, actress Jennylyn Mercado. Talent manager Jan Enriquez, who shared the story on social media, revealed that the funds would support the needs of PDLs in a facility connected to Rubio.
Enriquez recounted the events after Trillo’s award acceptance: “In case you are wondering, right after Dennis accepted his award ay may lumapit sakin na staff para iclaim na daw ang napanalunan 100k courtesy of sponsor Playtime. So ako na nagclaim on Dennis’ behalf and inabot sa akin ito in cash [o di ba? Because why not] Iaabot ko na dapat kay Jen, then sabi ni bessie, ‘bessie, i-donate na lang natin iyan sa mga PDL’.’
“And agad agad ko itong inabot kay JC Rubio na siyang may konek sa grupo ng mga PDL kung saan hango o inspired ang Tree of Hope. Lingid sa kaalaman nyo na may totoong Tree of Hope sa isang facility and doon po gagamitin ang 100k.. para matupad ang mga munti nilang hiling. When i say munti as in simple talaga minsan hiling lng nila bagong tshirt, shorts, sapatos, diapers para sa baby nila sa labas etc.”
This donation is part of ‘Green Bones’’ ongoing support for the PDL community, which inspired the film’s Tree of Hope storyline. During the film’s press conference, other PDLs’ wishes were also granted.
Trillo’s Best Actor award was one of six accolades Green Bones took home from the MMFF’s 50th Gabi ng Parangal. The film also won:
- Best Supporting Actor: Ruru Madrid
- Best Screenplay: Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza
- Best Cinematography: Neil Daza
- Best Child Performer: Sienna Stevens
Enriquez praised Trillo’s generosity, calling him “Golden Best Actor with a golden heart.” JC Rubio echoed this sentiment, stating that the actor’s donation embodies the film’s central message of compassion and hope.
“Thanks for your kindess Dennis! You truly embody our movie’s main message JC Rubio,” Enriquez wrote.
