Singer-actress Aicelle Santos, cast as Elsa in the reimagined version of the classic ‘Himala’, shared her personal experiences with miracles during the media conference for ‘Isang Himala’, one of the official entries in the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Aicelle, a devout Christian, opened up about two extraordinary healings in her family that she attributes to divine intervention.
“Ang himala po sa buhay ko na lagi kong ikinukuwento sa mga kakilala o hindi ay mirakulo ng pagpapagaling ng Panginoon sa aking pamilya,” she said.
Aicelle revealed that her 21-year-old sibling overcame Stage 2 lymphoma after a long battle. However, during this time, her 19-year-old brother faced a life-threatening case of myocarditis, a condition that drastically slowed his heart rate to 20 beats per minute, far below the normal 80 to 100 beats per minute.
The family’s ordeal reached a critical point when doctors requested their mother to sign a waiver, anticipating the worst. But Aicelle’s faith never wavered.
“Sabi ko, ‘Ma, ‘Mabubuhay si Aaron,’” she recalled.
She then prayed over her brother, declaring healing in the name of Jesus.
“Right there and then, I witnessed a miracle, dumilat po ang kanyang mata. And then, ang mommy, tumigil sa pag-iyak,” Aicelle shared, visibly moved by the memory.

Her testimony resonated deeply with those present, who responded with resounding applause. Aicelle emphasized that she feels called to share these stories to inspire others and affirm her faith.
‘Isang Himala’, a modern adaptation of the 1982 film ‘Himala’ directed by Ishmael Bernal and written by National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, brings a new perspective to themes of faith, miracles, and human frailty.
The musical film, directed by Pepe Diokno, is based on the 2018 stage production ‘Himala: Isang Musikal’. In the film, Aicelle reprises her role as Elsa, a faith healer whose supposed miracles ignite fervor and controversy in a remote town.
This adaptation marks one of the highlights of the 50th MMFF and will premiere on December 25.
