The 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is gearing up for an electrifying competition as ten diverse and high-caliber films, featuring some of the industry’s biggest stars, are set to captivate audiences this holiday season.
From star power to compelling narratives, the entries for MMFF’s golden year ensure a tough battle for box office supremacy. Leading the roster is ‘Uninvited’, starring icons Vilma Santos, Aga Muhlach, and Nadine Lustre. Also creating buzz are ‘The Kingdom’, a collaboration between Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual, and Vice Ganda’s highly anticipated ‘And the Breadwinner Is……’
Fans can also look forward to ‘Espantaho’, a supernatural offering featuring Judy Ann Santos and Lorna Tolentino, and ‘Hold Me Close’, a romantic drama pairing Carlo Aquino and Julia Barretto. Adding youthful charm is ‘My Future You’, starring Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin.
On the action and thriller front, ‘Green Bones’ brings Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid together, while ‘Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital in Taiwan’ sees Enrique Gil and Jane de Leon in an international horror collaboration. This year’s MMFF kicks off with the vibrant Parade of Stars on December 15, hosted by the City of Manila and led by Mayor Honey Lacuna. The parade serves as the curtain-raiser for the film screenings, which will run from December 25, 2024, to January 7, 2025.
Highlighting the festival is the Gabi ng Parangal (Awards Night) on December 27 at the Metropolitan Theater. Prestigious awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Director, will be presented, along with technical and special recognitions.
