The new series ‘WPS,’ created to inspire patriotism and inform Filipino viewers about the country’s territorial issues, premiered on November 5 across DZRH News TV, DZRH News, DZRH YouTube Channel, and Viva One.
With its compelling storyline and powerful performances, the show has earned admiration from viewers who tuned in for its debut.
Leading the cast are AJ Raval, Ayanna Misola, Daiana Menezes, Ali Forbes, Rannie and Lance Raymundo, Massimo Scofield, Henry Lo, Jericka Madrigal, and Mary Trego. Industry veterans Jeric Raval and Aljur Abrenica also play significant roles, with special appearances by Atty. Mark Tolentino and Joey San Andres.
The series, which examines the West Philippine Sea (WPS) issue, aims to raise public awareness about national sovereignty and the rich natural resources at stake in the contested waters.
An advance screening of WPS was held on November 3 at the Manila Hotel’s Maynila Ballroom, attended by the cast and invited guests. The episode screened showcased intense, action-packed scenes and a storyline centered on the country’s territorial disputes.
The concept for WPS was developed by Dr. Michael Raymond Aragon, head of the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Broadcasters sa Pilipinas Inc. (KSMBPI). According to Dr. Aragon, the series serves as both an educational and inspirational tool. “Atin ang West Philippine Sea (WPS),” he said. “May bully na China na gustong kunin ito because very rich ang natural resources, may oil, etc. Ang pinakamasaklap dito, ang daming fake news ng China na ipinapakalat at binabaligtad nila tayo. Tayo ang biktima tayo pa ang may kasalanan. That’s unfair.”
Directed by Karlo Montero, WPS seeks to entertain while fostering a deeper sense of national pride and awareness.
