Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark was crowned Miss Universe 2024 on November 15 at the Arena CDMX, triumphing over 124 contestants from across the globe.
She succeeds Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios, who reigned as Miss Universe 2023.
Theilvig is the first Dane to win the Miss Universe crown, donning the newly unveiled ‘Lumière de l’Infini’ (Light of Infinity) crown, designed by Filipino artisans from Jewelmer, a luxury brand globally renowned for its South Sea pearls.
The crown, featuring rare golden-hued pearls from Palawan’s waters, symbolizes elegance and resilience. Jewelmer’s meticulous production process spans up to five years, ensuring the rarity and excellence of its pieces. The company also designed the ‘La Mer en Majeste’ crown used in the Miss Universe Philippines pageant since 2022.
Theilvig’s journey to the crown saw her edge out fierce competitors in the top five, including:
1st Runner-Up: Chidimma Adetshina (Nigeria)
2nd Runner-Up: Maria Fernanda Beltran (Mexico)
3rd Runner-Up: Opal Suchata Chuangsri (Thailand)
4th Runner-Up: Ileana Marquez (Venezuela)
Miss Universe Asia: A New Title for Chelsea Manalo
Although Chelsea Manalo, the Philippines’ representative, did not make it past the Top 30, she was honored as the first-ever Miss Universe Asia, a newly established title recognizing outstanding candidates from each continent.
Manalo’s achievement brings pride to the Philippines, complementing her country’s illustrious Miss Universe legacy, which includes previous winners Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray.
The selection committee featured notable personalities, including: Michael Cinco, Dubai-based Filipino designer, Gabriela Gonzalez, women’s empowerment advocate, Nova Stevens, Miss Universe Canada 2020, Colombian actress Fariana, Entrepreneur Eva Cavalli.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray returned as a commentator, while actor Mario Lopez reprised his role as host.
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) awarded the Philippines the Best Host Tour Country during the pageant’s preliminary competition. The accolade highlights the hospitality extended to outgoing queen Sheynnis Palacios during her reign. Miss Universe Philippines President Jonas Gaffud received the award on behalf of the country.
