Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez has responded to recent chatter about her no longer being at the forefront of the music industry, calling it a natural progression and something she fully accepts.
In a TikTok video posted on November 21, the 54-year-old music icon addressed the issue with characteristic grace, urging her fans not to be troubled by such remarks.
“Don’t panic, don’t be upset, it’s not a bad thing. I’m just being realistic because it’s true. It’s no longer my time. That means I can no longer compete with the young ones,” she stated.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Velasquez reflected on her journey and the industry’s evolving landscape. “Come on, I’m 54 years old. I have been in the industry for almost 40 years and I have been singing all my life. And the truth is, even if I still can compete, I really don’t want to anymore,” she added.
The singer, who began her career through singing competitions, admitted that for much of her career, she felt the need to compete to establish her place in the industry. Now, she says, that phase has passed. “I don’t want to do that anymore,” Velasquez explained, adding that she now sees herself as a mentor who enjoys nurturing talent while still cherishing her craft.

This openness isn’t new for Velasquez, who has previously spoken about aging in the entertainment world. In May 2024, she shared that she and her husband, fellow music legend Ogie Alcasid, have come to terms with the potential changes in their voices over time.
The Songbird’s comments come amid a wave of support from her fans, who recently rallied on social media against an MYX Global art card that they felt diminished Velasquez’s contributions to the industry.
Despite shifting trends and the rise of younger talents, Regine Velasquez remains a towering figure in Philippine music, her legacy underscored by decades of excellence and respect from peers and fans alike.
