JC de Vera recently revealed an uncomfortable moment with Alex Gonzaga during their collaboration on a TV project.
In an interview with comedian-TV host Stanley Chi for One News PH, JC reflected on his more than two-decade-long career in showbiz, sharing an incident that left him taken aback and offended.
JC recalled his first experience working with Gonzaga on the TV5 comedy show ‘Lokomoko’ when they had an out-of-town shoot.
During the taping, he wore a pair of red Oakley sunglasses, which led to an unexpected question from Gonzaga: “JC, original ba yang shades mo?”
“I didn’t know whether to be angry or annoyed, but I definitely felt offended,” JC admitted. Although he understood that Gonzaga likely didn’t mean any harm, he couldn’t shake off the awkwardness of the situation. “It felt like she was questioning if my shades were fake,” he said.
JC responded with, “Orig to!” but noted that the exchange felt uncomfortable, given that they weren’t close at the time. “I felt like, ‘Do I look like someone who wears fake stuff?’” he explained.
The actor shared that he was hurt for about 10 to 15 minutes after the exchange, but he eventually decided to let it go. “It was a shocking moment for me,” JC admitted. However, he concluded that it might have been Gonzaga’s way of being friendly, even if it didn’t come across that way initially.
Despite the awkward encounter, JC emphasized that he didn’t hold any ill feelings toward Gonzaga. “After that, we worked together again on a project, The Entitled, and everything was fine,” he said, reflecting on their later collaboration in the 2022 comedy film.
