Actor-director Coco Martin revealed his no-tolerance policy against drug use and emphasized discipline on the set of ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.’
Speaking in an interview with Ogie Diaz on YouTube, the Kapamilya star shared his principles for creating a professional environment and helping struggling colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Coco highlighted his preference for offering jobs rather than financial assistance to people seeking help.
This approach, he explained, empowers people to take control of their future rather than rely on temporary solutions.
Over the years, Coco has extended opportunities to artists who have faded from the spotlight. Among the recent additions to ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ is Rod Navarro, Jr., son of the late director Rod Navarro. Rod Jr. now portrays Dindo, a key figure supporting Irma Adlawan’s character, Olga.
Discussing the enduring popularity of ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ and his previous hit ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,’ Coco credited their success to a flexible storytelling approach.
Meron akong umpisa pero wala akong gitna at dulo.,” he shared.
On set, Coco is known for his attention to detail. He enforces rules to ensure productivity, such as prohibiting cellphone use during shoots, requiring uniforms for proper representation, and providing adequate facilities for talents and crew.
Coco maintains a strict drug-free policy to protect the integrity of the workplace.
“Ang pinakaayaw ko kasi, ‘yung nagtatrabaho ka para sa bisyo mo,” he said firmly.
He disclosed that a member of the team recently tested positive for drugs. Coco advised them to take a leave of absence, return only after testing negative, and commit to quitting their vice.
Through his leadership, Coco has created a culture of respect, discipline, and opportunity in his productions. His commitment to professionalism and support for his colleagues have solidified his reputation as one of the most respected figures in Philippine showbiz.
‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ continues to dominate primetime television, with Coco Martin’s hands-on approach earning praise from both fans and peers.
