Kapuso actor Jon Lucas found himself in hot water with SB19 fans after sharing a humorous post on his social media that referenced the P-pop group.
The former Hashtags member reposted a poster of SB19 from Billboard Philippines and made light-hearted comparisons between his former group and the rising P-pop idols, which didn’t sit well with some netizens.
In his Facebook post, Jon joked about how the Hashtags members might appear if they had been given the same glossy pictorial treatment as SB19. He humorously mentioned the differences in height and appearance between his former groupmates, including Nikko Natividad, Zeus Collins, McCoy de Leon, Luke Conde, and Tom Olaf Johnson Doromal.
The post, which was intended as a fun throwback, quickly went viral but sparked a wave of negative reactions from SB19 fans.
“Kaya siguro hindi kami nagawan ng ganito dati sa Hashtags, kasi imagine mo si Nikko itatabi kay Zeus edi hanggang leeg. Tapos si McCoy naman itatabi kay Luke Conde edi baka hanggang dibdib din. Tapos isipin mo itatabi yung panga ko sa panga ni Tom Olaf Johnson Doromal edi nagkabanggan pa,” Jon wrote.
He ended the post with a playful nod to another Hashtags member, Bugoy Cariño, saying, “BUGOY hindi na kita isasama at baka itabi ka pa kay Kid magiging Batang Ama pa.”
While many of Jon’s followers appreciated the humor and reminisced about Hashtags’ past, some SB19 fans were not amused. They criticized Jon for seemingly comparing Hashtags to SB19, who have garnered international success and are nominated for Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards this year.
Despite the backlash, Jon responded to the criticism, clarifying that he had no intention of comparing the two groups or undermining SB19’s achievements.
“Ang dami naman namemersonal dito wala naman kami sinabing masama sa kanila. Kagrupo ko pa nga napasama eh,” Jon said in reply to one comment.
The actor’s light-hearted post may have sparked controversy, but Jon stood firm, reiterating that his intent was to reminisce and entertain, not to belittle or draw comparisons. Meanwhile, SB19 continues to make waves in the P-pop scene, while Jon remains active in his acting career.
