Kapamilya actress Francine Diaz stars in the inspirational film ‘Silay,’ marking a unique project in her career as she takes on a supporting role in a story that centers around the veteran actress Malou de Guzman, who plays the titular character Silay.
During a press conference held on October 24 at Trinoma Cinema 7 in Quezon City, Francine and Malou shared their experiences working together on the film.
While Francine was comfortable taking a supporting role, she expressed her deep appreciation for being part of such a meaningful project. She also thanked the film’s producer, Rachelle Umandap of Mace Ascending Entertainment Productions, for the opportunity.
Malou de Guzman, who has played numerous memorable characters over her career—such as the iconic Dugong in Marina—shared how she was often called a “legend” in the industry. On working with Francine, she noted, “Masaya, iba rin kasi ang energy na ibinibigay ng bata… she’s in the zone.” Malou highlighted Francine’s natural ability to access her emotions quickly, praising her young co-star’s sense of balance and authentic approach to her scenes.
Malou added, “Balanse, ‘yung natural, ‘yung unawa dun sa script, sa texto, at ‘yung sensibility… Receptive naman siya at bumabato.” Her comments reflected an appreciation for Francine’s maturity and skill in delivering the role with sensitivity and responsiveness.
Francine, on the other hand, admitted to feeling nervous when she first met Malou. “Ako po hinestly, kinabahan po ako nung unang nakita ko si Tita Malou…given na mas matagal po kayo sa akin sa industriyang ito, iba po ang pressure na makasama kayo sa isang eksena,” she shared.

As they filmed together, Francine grew more comfortable and started calling Malou “Nana.” She noted how their characters’ interactions in the film felt natural, making it easy to connect with Malou on set. “It’s an honor po for me para mashare ang big screen with Tita Malou,” Francine added.
While ‘Silay’ is currently set for screenings in schools, Francine’s fans are hopeful it will receive a wider theatrical release. With a seasoned cast led by Malou and a heartwarming story, ‘Silay’ has the potential to reach a broader audience and bring its impactful message to more viewers.
