DITO Telecommunity has launched DITO Home WOWFi, the world’s first 5G RedCap technology for home Wi-Fi, designed to offer fast, affordable internet powered by its “true 5G” standalone network.
The new service delivers speeds of up to 100Mbps, providing users with high capacity and low latency, ideal for home use.
In partnership with Huawei Technologies, DITO Home WOWFi uses the 5G RedCap standard, built specifically for efficiency on 5G standalone (SA) networks. Unlike traditional 5G networks reliant on 4G infrastructure, RedCap operates exclusively on 5G SA, offering superior performance while using less complex hardware to keep costs down, making it an affordable option for residential users.
With a simple plug-and-play setup, DITO Home WOWFi is designed for households looking for an easy alternative to wired connections, especially in underserved areas. The service is prepaid, meaning no documents, monthly fees, or long-term contracts are required. The Starter Kit is priced at P1,990, which includes unlimited 5G data and 50GB of 4G data for 30 days. After that, users can opt for a P790 top-up, which offers unlimited 5G and 50GB of 4G data.
DITO aims to expand its home Wi-Fi service and attract at least 300,000 subscribers by next year. According to Evelyn Jimenez, DITO’s Chief Revenue Officer, the company currently serves 100,000 home Wi-Fi subscribers, with plans to reach 150,000 by the end of 2024. “We’re optimistic about growing our subscriber base, depending on market response,” she said.
DITO’s new service targets the over six million households in its coverage area that still lack internet access. The company has deployed 2,000 cell sites across major regions like Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, with plans to expand into additional cities. Each DITO Home WOWFi router can support up to 40 devices, making it ideal for family use.
Subscribers can purchase DITO Home WOWFi through the DITO e-Shop, Experience Stores, retail partners, and online marketplaces like Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok. The launch of this service is also tied to the opening of DITO’s new store at SM Mall of Asia on November 8.
