Content creator Chloe Anjeleigh San Jose has shared her harrowing experience of domestic violence during her teenage years, in a candid interview on ‘Toni Gonzaga Studio.’
The influencer, known for her vibrant online presence, revealed the emotional and physical abuse she endured, shedding light on a deeply personal chapter of her life.
“I experienced po domestic violence,” Chloe said, as she reflected on the abuse, which she described as both physical and verbal. While she refrained from sharing specific details, she emphasized the lasting impact it had on her mental health.
Chloe recounted how, as a teenager in Australia, she longed to leave her home but had to wait until she turned 18. “Kaya po noong 16, gusto ko na talagang umalis po. Pero since minor po ako, I couldn’t. So, naghintay pa po ako ng two years mag-18 para po makaalis po ko,” she explained.
During her high school years, Chloe tried to escape the harsh environment at home by keeping herself busy. She immersed herself in school activities and spent her weekends participating in extra-curricular events, doing everything she could to avoid being at home.
The tipping point came during a family meal that escalated into a heated argument. Chloe retreated to her room for peace, but when the conflict continued, she decided it was time to leave for good.
Chloe revealed that she and her mother had tried to reconcile several times, but their attempts to mend their relationship only led to more arguments. “Nagkausap naman po kami, nag-try, pero hindi po talaga nag-work. Parang 2020 din nag-try kami magusap po pero parang nakikita ko pong pattern ganoon pa rin po. Like, magiging okay siya for the first one to two weeks po ‘tapos, babalik ang pattern namin na [nag-aaway] po kami. So then, sabi ko, ‘Hindi na talaga healthy, I have to parang remove myself from this environment po,'” she said.
After leaving home, Chloe spent seven months living at her best friend’s house before finishing high school. Once she secured her own place, she returned to take her younger sister with her, fulfilling a promise she made.
Chloe shared that her experiences have shaped her strong sense of self, which she believes is often misunderstood by many. “Kaya po siguro iyon nami-misunderstood ‘yung tapang ko po kasi nga po they don’t know naman what happened sa early childhood ko po,” she said.
