The P-pop scene is set to become even more dynamic as boy group BGYO delves into new musical styles.
In a recent interview, member Akira Morishita spoke about their creative journey amid the rising success of their sibling group, BINI.
The girl group has finally discovered its signature sound with their hit songs ‘Pantropiko’ and ‘Salamin, Salamin,’ both of which are expected to contend for the Song of the Year accolade at the upcoming 2024 awards.
When asked about BGYO’s current direction, Aki stated, “We’re still exploring ang mga sounds, pero may nahanap na kami.” This reassured fans and dispelled rumors that BGYO might disband due to the overwhelming success of BINI. “Hindi ko lang ma-share pa kung ano ‘yon — basta, abangan n’yo na lang!”
“BGYO is far from disbanding,” Aki confirmed.
Moreover, Aki emphasized that BGYO feels nothing but pride for BINI’s accomplishments, especially following their nomination for Best Asia Act at this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards. “Very proud ang BGYO sa lahat ng achievements ng BINI. They deserve everything they have now,” he remarked, showcasing the strong bond between the two groups.
Reflecting on their shared journey, Aki noted that BGYO witnessed BINI’s dedication during their initial training sessions in 2019. He also shared memories from their collaboration in the theater production ‘Tabing Ilog The Musical Rerun,’ where he performed alongside BINI member Jhoanna. “Feeling ko nga ‘pag nag-show si Jhoanna, ‘di kami makakalabas ng PETA (venue ng ‘Tabing Ilog’),” he joked, referring to the performance venue.
Despite BINI’s growing fame, Aki assured fans that Jhoanna remains grounded. The two still manage to catch up whenever possible, though her schedule with BINI is incredibly demanding. Aki praised Jhoanna for balancing her commitments, saying that she continues to prioritize her role in ‘Tabing Ilog’ amidst her rising stardom.
As for BGYO, the group is also busy with their own projects but ensures that they support one another’s endeavors. Aki mentioned that his group members plan to attend the rerun of ‘Tabing Ilog,’ which runs from November 8 to December 10.
