Actress AJ Raval came to the defense of her boyfriend, Aljur Abrenica, after a netizen criticized his decision to run for councilor in Angeles City, Pampanga, in the upcoming 2025 elections.
The controversy arose when a netizen left a comment on one of AJ’s older Instagram posts, where she shared a photo of herself and Aljur. The commenter expressed disapproval of the actor’s political aspirations, questioning his capability to serve the public when, according to them, he had failed to maintain his own family. The criticism referred to Aljur’s separation from his ex-wife, actress Kylie Padilla, with whom he shares two sons.
In response, AJ Raval calmly replied, “I will pray for you” and “God bless you and your family.” However, this only prompted a more sarcastic reply from the netizen, who claimed they did not need prayers from AJ and even suggested that she and Aljur needed them more. The commenter also criticized AJ for responding to an issue that did not involve her directly, implying that she was acting as though she were the “legal wife” in the situation.
The netizen added, “Thanks! Kung makapag-react ka, as if ikaw yung legal wife!”

After this exchange, AJ chose not to respond further.
Aljur Abrenica, who is transitioning from acting into politics, has yet to address the criticism directly. His candidacy for councilor has drawn attention as he enters a new phase in his career, with both supporters and critics closely watching his political journey. Despite the personal controversies, his bid for public office continues to be a topic of interest ahead of the 2025 elections.
