Local television is set to dazzle local viewers, as TV networks give their best shot, to offer ambitious and groundbreaking dramas, in the next two years.
Both GMA Network and ABS-CBN (together with its partners, TV5 and A2Z), are gearing up for one explosive television season, that would spice up the local landscape with both familiar and new storylines, compelling new approaches, and the brilliance of seasoned and up-and-coming stars.
This year, and the coming year, 2025, several titles have already surfaced, and while not all of them are surely to premiere in the next two years, they nevertheless serve excitement to the general viewing public.
Shining Inheritance (GMA Network).
Based on the hit Korean drama of the same name, Shining Inheritance, is set to dazzle on GMA Network’s Afternoon Prime, beginning September 9. It stars Kyline Alcantara, Kate Valdez, and Ms. Coney Reyes, the series, and is helmed by director Jon Monroy.
Prinsesa ng City Jail (GMA Network).
This series is up for a big challenge, as it is slated to replace GMA Network’s most popular daytime series, Abot Kamay Na Pangarap. With teen star, Sofia Pablo, in the titular lead, the series promises to create another phenomenon, similar to what happened to Jillian Ward.
InCognito (ABS-CBN).
The sequel to Star Creatives’ hit action-drama series, The Iron Heart, this star-studded drama brings together Richard Gutierrez and Daniel Padilla in the same, grandiose project. Featuring original cast members, Baron Geisler, Anthony Jennings, and new members, Kaila Estrada, Maris Racal, and more, the series is reportedly debuting on Netflix and on primetime TV this November.
Mga Batang Riles (GMA Network).
Set to be GMA Prime’s banner TV series after Pulang Araw, this Miguel Tanfelix-starrer, has the ambition of going against the most watched TV series in the country, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. Will it succeed at such a goal? The action-drama series is expected to premiere within the year.
It’s Okay To Not be Okay (ABS-CBN).
Marking Anne Curtis’ much-awaited teleserye comeback, this Filipino adaptation of the hit Korean drama with the same name, is projected to make incredible success both online and local television. Featuring Joshua Garcia and Carlo Aquino, as Curtis’ leading men, the series is surely to provide a fresh trio that audiences will definitely get smitten with.
Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre (GMA Network).
The newest installment in GMA Network’s Encantadia universe, ‘Sang’gre’ seems poised to be one of the most ambitious future series, in terms of budget and production. The new series is projected to deliver a fresh take on the much-loved tale of the gem-bearing siblings, tasked to protect the power of nature, that were entrusted to them.
Saving Grace (ABS-CBN).
The teleserye comeback of the one and only, daytime drama queen, Julia Montes, the series marks the actress’ return to Primetime Bida, after Ikaw Lamang in 2014. The series, which is based on Nippon TV’s smash J-dorama, Mother!, notably also features the Megastar, Sharon Cuneta, in her first ever teleserye.
Lolong Season 2 (GMA Network).
2022’s highest-rated series is said to continue with a new season soon, with Ruru Madrid hreprising the titular role. Set to go against Coco Martin’s FPJ’s Batang Quiapo‘ will it ever pull off the same success it enjoyed on its first season? Or will it follow the same gloomy fate of big budgeted shows, Mga Lihim Ni Urduja and Pulang Araw, which both failed miserably in the ratings game.
