Regal Entertainment celebrated its illustrious legacy of producing over 700 films in a grand event at the 38 Valencia Events Place.
The event on September 21, called the ‘Regal Legacy,’ honored over six decades of filmmaking excellence and introduced the company’s future projects.
The highlight of the evening was the formal introduction of Roselle Monteverde as the new President and CEO, and Keith Monteverde as Executive Vice President (EVP). Together, they vowed to carry forward the legacy of their mother, Mother Lily Monteverde, a prominent figure in Philippine cinema.
In her speech, Roselle reaffirmed her and her siblings’ commitment to upholding their mother’s vision. “We will continue to nurture the Philippine movie industry as Mother Lily did. She dedicated her life to ensuring that Filipino films remain vibrant and relevant,” she said.
A Tribute to Mother Lily’s Legacy
The event paid tribute to Mother Lily, who began Regal’s journey in 1962 by distributing foreign films before transitioning into producing local movies in 1976. Her first production, ‘Magsikap: Kayod sa Araw, Kayod sa Gabi,’ marked the beginning of Regal’s rise as a powerhouse in Filipino cinema.
Under Mother Lily’s leadership, Regal produced two of the country’s most successful franchises: ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll,’ a long-running horror anthology series, and ‘Mano Po,’ a drama series about Chinese-Filipino families. Both franchises have left an indelible mark on Philippine cinema, with numerous box-office hits and critical acclaim.
Honoring Past Achievements, Pledging Support for Industry Workers
During the event, the Monteverde family donated P1 million to the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), reflecting Regal’s continued support for the film industry and its workers.
A Regal Legacy Wall was unveiled, showcasing film stills, photos, and memorabilia from the company’s six decades in the industry. This visual timeline highlighted Regal’s evolution and its contributions to the entertainment landscape.
