Actress Lovi Poe is taking on a new role as a film producer, teaming up with Regal Entertainment to co-produce her first film under her newly launched production outfit, C’est Lovi Productions.
The collaboration was unveiled during Regal Films’s 60th-anniversary celebration, with the film ‘Guilty Pleasure’ set to mark Poe’s venture into film production.
Poe expressed her excitement and gratitude to Regal Entertainment, reflecting on her early career with the company. “I started my career as a Regal baby. My first-ever film project was with Regal. They were the first ones who followed me and I will always be grateful to them,” she said, thanking Regal’s Roselle Monteverde for her continued support.
‘Guilty Pleasure’ will be directed by Connie Macatuno, reuniting with Poe after their successful 2020 film ‘Malaya.’ The film is written by Noreen Capili and delves into sensitive themes of lust and abuse, telling the untold stories of women who experience mistreatment from their partners.
Capili shared that the film was designed to spark discussions on crucial issues. “So we thought of lust, abuse whether verbal, physical, sexual. These are done by men and we have a platform to talk about those things visually. The idea came from untold stories. The victims were their boyfriends or husbands,” she said.
The film stars Poe alongside JM de Guzman, Jameson Blake, Dustin Yu, Sarah Edwards, and Angelica Lao, focusing on three ambitious lawyers dealing with love, betrayal, and revenge.
Poe described the production as both challenging and fulfilling, ensuring that the heavy topics were handled with care. “It is a very sensitive topic, what we’re trying to bring every time we shot a scene, although everyone had to deliver and made sure the scene was handled with care and with so much respect,” she said.
In addition to ‘Guilty Pleasure,’ Poe is set to star in the Hollywood independent film ‘Bad Man,’ featuring Seann William Scott, Johnny Simmons, Rob Riggle, and Chance Perdomo. This international project is yet another testament to Poe’s growing influence in the entertainment industry.
