On June 19, 2024, the members of BGYO filed criminal cases against online bashers who have maliciously imputed falsehoods and defamatory accusations against them.
These deliberate attacks were of serious nature with the only intention of harming and damaging their reputation.
One of the cases filed was against Ms Rachelle Galang, who, during the preliminary hearing, sought forgiveness for what she committed and offered to personally issue a public apology to BGYO and Star Magic.
This humble request of Ms. Galang was accepted, if only to show consideration and the good will of BGYO to her sincere expression of regret.
However, the acceptance of her apology which was accorded to Ms. Galang, does NOT mean that the BGYO and its management will no longer take action on other pending criminal cases.
This is a sui generis case or a one-time exception for this particular circumstance. We will pursue all other cases and we will ensure that justice will be served for BGYO.
May this serve as a reminder to all that in today’s digital age, where online platforms serve as powerful tools for communication, freedom of speech is not absolute and without consequence.
As cyber libel emerges to be a serious concern, our public expression of thoughts and opinions must always be accompanied by a sense of responsibility and accountability to avoid harmful repercussions.
