When was the last time you visited your local playground? Ever since we gained access to digital entertainment and education, there has been less active play among kids and families. Even if they tried, many public areas dedicated to play are poorly maintained. So, if outside is unsafe, and there is an abundance of entertainment at their fingertips, it’s no wonder families prefer their children to stay indoors.
As playgrounds lose children, we lose a bit of our culture. Some of our favorite Filipino games were invented in streets and local parks. As less and less kids play outside to teach games like Luksong Tinik, Palo Sebo, or Tumbang Preso, we could eventually lose some classic Pinoy games altogether.
Pocky, the snack brand dedicated to sharing happiness, is bringing back play to our local playgrounds. The brand wants to encourage kids to “snap out of their digital worlds” and experience the happiness associated with slides, swings, and rich Pinoy activities such as Luksong Tinik and Arnis.
In an effort to do that, they cleaned and redesigned a public park to become a safe and fun play area for families nearby.

The play area in Delpan St., San Nicolas, Metro Manila, like many parks and playgrounds in the Philippines, was unkempt and unsafe for kids to play in. So in cooperation with the barangay LGU, the brand unveiled its first “Snap Out and Play” playground. The playground was redesigned around a “Pocky” theme, with equipment reflecting the iconic Pocky box and its range of colorful flavors.
