Talent manager and content creator Ogie Diaz, known for his candid showbiz scoops, has admitted that some celebrities have taken offense to his revelations, earning him the title “Patron ng mga Marites” from netizens.
In a recent interview with actress Aiko Melendez, featured on her YouTube channel, Ogie revealed that some stars, who were once close friends, grew distant after their names were mentioned in his reports.
“May mga artista sa akin na nagtampo dahil minsan, kapag nakakaladkad ‘yung pangalan nila, na ire-report namin kasi sumabit sila doon sa isyu, makakarating lang sa akin nagtatampo,” Ogie shared, acknowledging the delicate balance of his role in the entertainment industry.
Ogie explained that he always tries to make amends with those who feel slighted by his reporting. “Kung nasaktan man siya, kung na-offend man siya du’n sa pagsabit ng pangalan niya, nagso-sorry ako,” he said.
However, he admitted that not all apologies are accepted. “Minsan hindi ka pa rin forgiven. Parang may ngitngit pa rin at naiintindihan ko naman din sila, kung saan sila nanggagaling,” Ogie said, noting that he understands where the hurt is coming from.
Despite this, Ogie remains optimistic that time will heal these rifts. “Hindi ko na pinipilit iyon kasi mangyayari at mangyayari ‘yun pagdating ng araw nang hindi pinipilit,” he added.
Ogie emphasized that the strained relationships won’t deter him from his work. He believes that reporting on showbiz news, even if it involves his friends, is part of his responsibility.
This revelation comes amid Ogie’s ongoing legal battle with actress Bea Alonzo, who filed a cyber libel complaint against him. Last June, Ogie filed a counter-affidavit and a counter-charge for perjury with damages against Alonzo at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
In May, Bea Alonzo filed three separate criminal cases for cyber libel against Ogie and his co-hosts on their respective online programs. Ogie responded by saying he would address the issue at the appropriate time.
The legal disputes arose as rumors swirled around Bea’s breakup with her former fiancé, Dominic Roque. The couple, who began dating in January 2021 and got engaged in July 2023, was supposed to tie the knot this year. However, their split was confirmed earlier this year by Boy Abunda on his show ‘Fast Talk With Boy Abunda.’
