Leading finance app in the Philippines, GCash has released a compelling new short film featuring the inspiring journey of Paralympic medalist.
This latest entry in the GCash Stories series aims to highlight the struggles and triumphs of para-athletes, with a particular focus on the financial challenges they face.
“Adz is a true inspiration,” said Neil Trinidad, Chief Marketing Officer of GCash. “Her story is a testament to the incredible potential within each individual, regardless of their abilities. Through this film, we hope to spark meaningful conversations about inclusion and the need for greater support for persons with disabilities.”
The film takes viewers back to the year 2000 when Adz received the life-changing news that she had qualified to compete on the international stage.
Despite her excitement, she was confronted with the daunting task of raising funds to make her journey possible. Undeterred, Adz tirelessly sought support, eventually securing enough to compete and win the Philippines’ first Paralympic bronze medal in para powerlifting.
Now a 19-time para powerlifting medalist, Adz remains committed to supporting grassroots para-athletes, despite ongoing difficulties in securing sponsorships. She now uses GCash to raise funds, hoping to empower others to pursue their dreams.
Born in Kiangan, Ifugao, Adz contracted polio at age three, which left her unable to walk. While residing at Bahay Mapagmahal, she was introduced to para-powerlifting through the Rehab Department of the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
Today, as a retired athlete, Adz continues her advocacy for persons with disabilities (PWDs) as Project Manager at WOWLEAP, Inc., a women-led organization. She leads initiatives promoting inclusivity, economic independence, and social awareness, drawing from her own experiences to deepen her understanding of the challenges faced by PWDs.

Beyond her work with WOWLEAP, Adz is actively involved in community outreach, frequently speaking at sports clinics, workshops, schools, and other events on topics such as disability sensitivity, resilience, and inclusion.
In a bid to further its commitment to financial inclusion, GCash has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA). This partnership aims to create an inclusive workplace where persons with disabilities can thrive. By 2025, GCash has pledged to implement comprehensive policies, innovative programs, and accessible spaces for PWDs with the support of the NCDA.
GCash has also partnered with WOWLEAP Inc. to support their capacity-building initiatives. In collaboration with Visa, the company has donated wheelchairs to the Philippine Orthopedic Center, helping PWDs maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.
Looking ahead, GCash plans to continue collaborating with organizations that share its vision of developing tailored programs for the PWD community.
