Angelica Poquiz Yulo, mother of Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, has publicly revealed that tensions within their family are allegedly caused by Carlos’s girlfriend, Chloe San Jose.
Despite Carlos’s recent gold medal win in the men’s floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Angelica faced criticism from netizens for not showing support for her son’s achievement. Many noted that she did not post about his victory on social media.
In an interview with 102.7 Star FM Manila, Angelica claimed that the source of the conflict between her and Carlos is Chloe. She alleged that Chloe has been deliberately distancing Carlos from his family.
“Ang naging mitsa, ever since ay yung babae talaga,” Angelica said. She further revealed that Chloe was not allowed to stay in Carlos’s dormitory in Japan, which was funded by the Philippine Sports Commission. This situation reportedly caused frustration for Carlos’s family.
“Sa tingin n’yo ba patutulugin ko ‘yung anak ko (Eldrew), menor de edad, kasama siya at ‘yung babae?” Angelica questioned.
She expressed feeling that Chloe intentionally separates Carlos from them. “Okay lang, then noong nagkita, feeling ko inilalayo niya sa amin si Caloy,” Angelica added.

Angelica also denied allegations that she and her family stole money from Carlos. She confirmed that they used part of his savings to renovate their home, stating, “’Yung hindi aaray yung bulsa niya.” She also noted that other children in the family have harbored resentment toward Carlos due to their conflicts.
