Multi-awarded comedienne and host Vice Ganda recently opened up about navigating relationship challenges and offered some advice for couples.
The candid discussion took place on the July 3 episode of ‘EXpecially For You’ after hearing the story of the searcher, Joel, and his ex-girlfriend, Jen.
Jen recounted a time when she and her former boyfriend argued over her desire to attend a debut. She explained, “It started during the height of my friends’ debuts. I asked him if I could go to that debut. Of course, I knew he wouldn’t want me to. But I insisted on going and even picked a fight to get my way.”
Vice Ganda shared his observation that some people intentionally start arguments to avoid asking their partner for permission to attend events. “Sometimes, people pick fights so they don’t have to ask for permission from their partner,” he noted.
Co-host Jhong Hilario admitted that he had done this in the past.
When asked by Jhong if he had ever done the same, Vice Ganda responded, “Sa mga past. Hindi kasi kami nag-aaway ni Ion. Wala kaming [ganun].
Vice and his partner, Ion Perez, had a wedding commitment ceremony in 2021 at The Little Vegas Chapel in Nevada, USA. Although not legally binding, the ceremony solidified their commitment to each other.
Vice concluded with a reminder about prioritizing what truly matters in a relationship, especially as one grows older. “As you age, you choose what’s worth the headache and what’s worth arguing about. We focus on the big issues, not the petty ones,” he said.
The heartfelt segment offered a glimpse into Vice Ganda’s mature approach to relationships and his focus on maintaining harmony with his partner, Ion.
