After more than a decade in the music industry, acclaimed singer-songwriter TJ Monterde felt on May 6 that his music is finally being truly appreciated.
This sentiment was poignantly expressed in an interview following the second day of his ‘Sariling Mundo’ concert series at the New Frontier Theater.
Monterde, known for his heartfelt and relatable songs, shared his initial nerves for his performance at ‘Sariling Mundo’ in the New Frontier Theater.
“Akala ko tonight would be like—kinakabahan ako honestly about tonight. Kasi kahapon we did a really good show. Tapos tonight parang hindi ko alam kung kaya ko bang i-pull off ‘yung ganoon,” he admitted.
However, any apprehension quickly dissipated as the night unfolded into what he described as a distinctly unique and gratifying experience. The artist, who has been in the industry for 11 to 12 years, noted a marked difference in how his music is received today compared to the past.
“Feeling ko lang talaga, mas na-appreciate ng mga tao ang music ko ngayon kumpara noon,” Monterde reflected, expressing a deep sense of fulfillment. “I waited for this moment, hinintay ko ang time na ‘to. Kaya upon entering the stage yesterday and today, handa ako; I’m ready.”
This newfound appreciation was not lost on Monterde, who after performing on stage, found renewed confidence and purpose.
“I’m ready to talk about my songs, I’m ready to inspire people,” he declared.
Monterde’s ‘Sariling Mundo’ concert was his first major event since entering the music industry in 2012.
