SB19 member Stell Ajero has responded to comments made by Raquel Pempengco, the mother of singer Jake Zyrus, regarding his performance of ‘All By Myself’ at a recent David Foster concert.
Raquel Pempengco recently compared Stell’s rendition of the song to a past performance by her child, formerly known as Charice Pempengco, sparking significant discussion online.
In an interview with talent manager Ogie Diaz during Stell’s concert tour in the United States with Kapamilya singer Erik Santos, Stell addressed the comparison.
“For me naman po, ewan ko po sa mga Pinoy pero hindi po nila maiwasang magkumpara. Sa totoo lang po, bawat isang artist may kani-kaniya naman po ‘yang galing, something special to offer,” Stell said.
He added, “And ‘yong pagkukumpara, parang dapat alisin na po natin sa isip natin ‘yon kasi si Charice, si Charice na po ‘yon. Nagawa niya na po ‘yon, nakapag-iwan na po siya ng mark, at kung ano po ‘yong ginawa ko, ‘yon naman po ‘yong sarili kong interpretasyon.”
Ogie Diaz also asked Stell about Raquel’s claim that she admires SB19 and is particularly impressed with Stell’s talent.
“Siyempre nanay po siya, siyempre para sa mga mata ng nanay, anak nila ‘yong pinakamagaling. Pero hindi ko naman po siya masisisi doon po sa nasabi niyang salita, kasi sa kaniya po ‘yon eh. Opinyon niya po. wala naman akong magagawa ro’n. Sa mata naman po ng nanay ko, ako ‘yong pinakamagaling,” Stell remarked.
Stell emphasized that he holds no grudges against Raquel Pempengco for her comments.
As of now, Raquel Pempengco has not issued any further response to Stell’s statements.
