Former actress and now influencer actress Rica Peralejo has spoken out about the recent backlash surrounding a parody performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which some critics claimed resembled ‘The Last Supper.’
Peralejo pointed out that the performance was actually inspired by the ‘Feast of Dionysus,’ making it fitting for the Olympic Games.
In a post on Threads, Peralejo expressed her confusion over the outrage, stating, “Kaya pala no matter how much I look at it hindi naman Last Supper yung efek sakin [laughing emoji] and here are the Christians being so outraged and honestly, this makes the Christian faith talaga look unthinking and unreasonable more than ever! [laughing emoji].”
She added, “If true talaga this, time na for the Christians to think talaga of how people can believe in us when we keep representing the faith as reactionary. Reacts before thinking. Enraged before understanding. Others then would automatically think the faith is for fools! And the saddest part is I cannot blame them.”
Peralejo admitted that as a Christian, she was not personally offended by the performance. “I was not, at all, affected as a Christian for so many reasons but when I saw it I was a bit confused because it felt like it wasn’t something that matched the whole Olympic vibe as I know it haha! Parang mas pang Superbowl-ish siya than Olympics,” she explained.

She also noted, “But then again in past years parang nagiging show/entertainment na din talaga yung Olympics.”
The organizing committee of the Paris 2024 Olympics has issued an apology following criticism from various Catholic and Christian groups, as well as conservative politicians worldwide.
“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. [The opening ceremony] tried to celebrate community tolerance,” said Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps at a press conference. She added, “We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense we are really sorry.”
