The 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is set to begin on December 25, and the first batch of competing films has been revealed.
The announcement took place this afternoon at Manila City Hall, with MMFF Executive Committee and Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Don Artes leading the event. The City of Manila will host this milestone edition of the festival.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, MMFF Executive Committee head Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo, and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, all expressed their support for the entertainment industry.
Here are the first five films selected for the 50th MMFF:
‘And The Bread Winner Is…’

‘Green Bones’
Production: GMA Pictures
Starring: Sofia Pablo and Dennis Trillo

‘Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital’

Starring: Jane de Leon, Enrique Gil, Alexa Miro, and MJ Lastimosa

‘Himala Isang Musikal’

Starring: Aicelle Santos and Bituin Escalante

‘The Kingdom’

These films were chosen based on their submitted scripts and were announced during the grand launch of the 50th MMFF, which carries the theme “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta.” The event was hosted by Jake Ejercito and Isabelle Daza.
Producers submitting finished films have until September 30 to submit their entries and other required documents, including the official trailer, clippings, and behind-the-scenes footage. The remaining five films to complete the Top 10 will be announced on October 15.
