Actress Elijah Alejo recently shared her personal experience with high school bullying during a media conference for her upcoming film ‘Field Trip,’ held at Red Hotel in Cubao, Quezon City, on June 19.
Unlike her ‘Prima Donnas’ co-stars Althea Ablan, Sofia Pablo, and Jillian Ward, Alejo has been less visible on television, as she is currently focused on her studies. She is pursuing an undergraduate degree in medical technology at Manila Central University.
During the interview with LionhearTV and other selected media outlets, Alejo opened up about the challenges she faced as a high school student due to her celebrity status. “Nu’ng high school, na-bully ako, because/’yung pagiging artista ko… Nakapasa kasi ako sa science high school. Kaya lang naman daw ako natanggap, kasi artista. Kaya lang din daw ako nakakapasa kasi artista,” she recalled.
Alejo identified the person spreading these rumors as a male classmate. With her mother’s encouragement, she decided to confront him. “Nakilala ko yung nag-i-spread ng rumor na ‘yun. It’s a guy! Nu’ng isinumbong ko kay Mommy, sabi ni Mommy, ‘Sugurin mo ‘yan! Labanan mo! Patulan mo!’ Naghabulan kami sa buong building. Four floors ‘yon!” she recounted.
When asked what she did once she caught up with him, Alejo said, “Kinuwelyuhan ko lang, kasi masyado akong hiningal. Supposedly, sabi ni Mommy, sapakin ko raw para matuto…”
Her confrontation led to an unexpected positive outcome. “After nu’n, natigil na ‘yung pambu-bully kasi naging friends. Up until now, friends pa rin kami,” she shared.
Elijah Alejo is set to star in the upcoming suspense-adventure film ‘Field Trip,’ alongside MJ Manuel and Gab Dekit.
The film also features Jeffrey Santos, Alex Medina, Jennifer Lee, Simon Ibarra, Dindo Arroyo, and Dexter Doria. Directed by Jose “JR” Olinares, with a screenplay by Eric Ramos, ‘Field Trip’ will be released in theaters nationwide by PinoyFlix.
