Senator Robin Padilla is set to make a comeback to the big screen with a biopic portraying former Senator Gringo Honasan.
This will be Padilla’s first major film role since 2019. Prior to the 2022 elections, he had started shooting several films but could not finish them due to his Senate duties.
Padilla has prioritized the Honasan biopic, produced by Borracho Film Productions, Inc. and led by Atty. Ferdie Topacio, who previously produced the film ‘Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told.’ Alongside Topacio, former Congressman Mike Defensor is also involved in the production, with hopes that the film will be selected for the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival.
During a recent media conference for the biopic, Padilla was asked about the breakup of Kathryn Bernardo and his nephew, Daniel Padilla. He shared that Daniel, known as DJ, does not discuss his love life with him, and they typically bond over music.
“Kapag magkasama kami, puro kantahan, pero sa loob ng kanta nandoon ang mga kuwento,” Padilla said.
Despite the breakup, Padilla expressed confidence that the KathNiel love team will reconcile.
“Kapag gumawa ng pelikula ‘yon, magkakabalikan ‘yon,” he stated, explaining that such partnerships naturally go through phases of growth and maturity. He advised the couple to enjoy their time apart to gain a better understanding of their feelings for each other.
Padilla also expressed his admiration for Kathryn, acknowledging her significant role in Daniel’s career.
“Alam lahat ng Padilla na malaki ang aming pagbigay-pugay kay Kathryn, kasi siya rin naman nagbigay ng break kay Daniel. Alam naman naming lahat ‘yon, kaya ang paggalang namin kay Kathryn, eh, sobra-sobra,” he admitted.
Kathryn, who gained fame with her role in the 2010 remake of ‘Mara Clara,’ formed a love team with Daniel in a weekly teen series, which significantly boosted their careers.
