Actress Julia Barretto and former Vice President Leni Robredo recently shared a lunch date in Naga City, where the majority of Julia’s new film, ‘Un/happy For You,’ is being filmed.
Julia documented their meeting with an Instagram Story, captioning it: “Lunch date today with Ma’am @lenirobredo,” accompanied by a white heart emoji.
Leni Robredo also took to social media to share her experience, noting the pleasant surprise of discovering that many of the film’s crew members, including director Petersen Vargas, had volunteered during her 2022 presidential campaign.
“Ang saya sa set. Met Joshua, Kaila, Ketchup, Noni Buencamino (his wife, Shamaine, is from Naga), and the rest of the artists and crew,” Robredo posted. She emphasized the local significance, stating, “95% of [Un/happy] For You is being shot in Naga kaya dapat madalan kan mga taga Naga. Magayonon ang istorya [That’s why people from Naga should be able to hear this. The story is beautiful].”
Her post quickly gained traction, earning 61,000 likes and 2,000 shares.
Amidst this social media buzz, Liberal Party President and Albay First District Representative Edcel Lagman hinted at the possibility of Robredo running for mayor of Naga City in the 2025 midterm elections.
Julia Barretto, who has been an open supporter of Robredo, previously attended a Pasig campaign rally for the Leni Robredo-Kiko Pangilinan tandem in March 2022. Her mother, former actress Marjorie Barretto, also personally campaigned for the duo.
Petersen Vargas, the director of ‘Un/happy For You,’ had earlier directed a campaign video featuring actress Nadine Lustre endorsing Robredo’s presidential bid.
‘Un/happy For You’ is a reunion project for Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia, four years after their last collaboration in ‘Block Z.’ The film delves into the complex emotions and unresolved issues of past relationships. Writer Jen Chuaunsu elaborated on the theme, saying the movie explores the ongoing pain and complications that arise even after a relationship ends, making it highly relatable for many.
The film, also written by Kookai Labayen and Crystal San Miguel, is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on August 14.
