Kapamilya variety show ‘It’s Showtime’ made a surprise debut on AllTV on June 17, catching many viewers off guard.
This unannounced airing follows months of speculation after ABS-CBN and AllTV signed a deal in April to broadcast ‘TV Patrol’ and Jeepney TV content on Channel 2.
The sudden appearance of ‘It’s Showtime’ came without prior announcements, promotional teasers, or press conferences. The show is concurrently aired on multiple platforms including GMA Network, GTV, Kapamilya Channel on cable, and online via Kapamilya Online Live and iWantTFC.
This development indicates that GMA Network has permitted the show to be broadcast on other networks despite their existing blocktimer agreement.
Since AllTV’s launch in 2022, it has been featuring various Kapamilya programs, including classic ABS-CBN dramas such as ‘Doble Kara,’ ‘Ngayon at Kailanman,’ and ‘Sana Dalawa Ang Puso.’
The broadcast of ‘It’s Showtime’ marks a notable return to its original home, Channel 2, which was formerly utilized by ABS-CBN before their shutdown.
In September 2020, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) revoked all frequencies previously allocated to ABS-CBN, including VHF channel 2, following the denial of ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal by the House of Representatives in July 2020. Post-shutdown, ABS-CBN has pivoted to being a major content provider for A2Z, TV5, and former rival GMA Network, alongside expanding its digital media presence.
In 2022, ABS-CBN’s former television frequency was reassigned by the NTC to Manny Villar’s Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS), which then launched AllTV.
