Actress Isay Alvarez opened up about a challenging period in her life on May 9, marked by a fallout with one of her “anak-anakan,” ‘Seoulmeyt’ star Kim Molina, due to political differences.
Speaking at the press conference for Viva’s latest film ‘Seoulmeyt,’ Alvarez shared that she and movie director Darryl Yap experienced similar issues.
“Siguro kagaya ni Direk Da, nagkaroon kami ng hindi magandang phase sa buhay namin during the elections. Very close kami. Marami akong anak-anakan sa teatro; maraming nawala,” she said.
The 2022 election was a divisive time in the showbiz community, with personalities torn between supporting Bongbong Marcos or Leni Robredo. Alvarez and Yap were supporters of Marcos, while Molina and her boyfriend Jerald Napoles backed Robredo.
Alvarez emphasized her respect for others’ political beliefs and her disappointment at not receiving the same respect in return.
“Actually, hindi ko alam na ganoon ang pakiramdam nila sa amin. Kasi ino-honor ko naman kung ano sila. So, I was expecting the same to be given to me. But I didn’t get that.”
While it was not Molina and her partner who badmouthed the seasoned actress, Alvarez knew that their fellow supporters did. This film project marked their reunion since ‘Rak of Aegis,’ providing a chance to work together again after the strained period.
“I’m just so happy na nagkasama din kami dito. It’s our reunion actually. It’s our first time noong look test, noon lang kami ulit nagkita,” she stated.
In addition to addressing her relationship with Molina, Alvarez shared her excitement about working with director Darryl Yap on their latest film. Working with him for the first time, the actress witnessed how giving and understanding the director was.
“May raket ako doon eh sa gabi. So dahil mabuting loob siya, naiintindihan niya ang buhay na kailangang maghanap-buhay, inuna niya ang eksena ko,” she shared.
Alvarez received a gift from Yap as a token of appreciation for her performance. ‘Seoulmeyt’ will be in cinemas nationwide starting May 29, bringing both Alvarez and Molina together on the big screen despite past political differences.
